Lucy Electric UK Limited with trading name of "Lucy Switchgear" has launched its operations in Pakistan. Lucy Switchgear has entered the Pakistani market with a strong reputation within the electrical power distribution industry, having been in the business for over 100 years.
Pakistan Country Manager of Lucy Switchgear, Salman Ahmed Qureshi talking to Business Recorder on Wednesday said that the company has launched its operations in Pakistan keeping in view the market potential as well as to explore the possibilities of joint venture with Pakistani businesses like it has done in Saudi Arabia, UAE and India.
"As such with strategy of "thinking globally and acting locally,' our first priority is to find the right partner for maximum local value addition," he said. He pointed out that before launching its operation in Pakistan with setting up of an office in Karachi, the company had obtained technical approval of its products by KESC and Nespak with supplies to KESC and National Industrial Park, Korangi in last three years.
Having potential of supplying 11000 Volts Ring Main Units worth over Rs 125 million to one industrial park last year, Salman Qureshi is confident of a significant contribution of the company not only towards foreign exchange savings for Pakistan but also in generating additional employment opportunities through investment in local manufacturing facility. In addition to supply of the products to Wapda and various other utility companies, the company is also focussing on providing services and products in the sector of alternate source of energies including Wind Farms and Solar Parks.
During a presentation to a gathering of engineers in Karachi, Andrew Evans, Export Sales Manager of Lucy Switchgear informed participants about the presence of the company in over 50 countries with a purpose built $10 million state of art facility in Thame, Oxfordshire, home to its main manufacturing plant in the UK.
Additional manufacturing facilities are located in Dubai, UAE. Set up in 1997, Lucy Switchgear's Dubai operation offers high quality customer service, technical expertise and stock holding to a large customer base in the Gulf region. Joint ventures in Saudi Arabia and India and the one in Pakistan in near future enables Lucy Switchgear to provide a truly global service. Evans also provided a brief on various solutions that the company can offer in order to cut down the outages in an electrical distribution network resulting in a reliable service to the consumers.
The company supplies medium voltage oil and SF6 insulated vacuum Ring Main Units (RMU), pole mounted air break and SF6 enclosed load break switches, substation disconnectors and power connectors, automation and retrofit solutions, low voltage feeder pillars and cut-outs.
According to Andrew Evans, his company has been successful in staying ahead of the competition with technical excellence and responsive after sales care and as Lucy Switchgear has the capability to manufacture units for any location, climate or situation, it has been possible to enjoy over 50 percent market share in Middle East specially in areas with dusty, moist and very hot conditions for the core product of Ring Main Units. As such he looked very confident for the success of the products in Pakistan as well both in coastal areas and regions with extreme rough and climatic conditions. The company is also participating in Pakistan Oil, Gas and Energy Exhibition (Pogee 2011) at Expo Centre Karachi, displaying its products.
