United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) has lauded the efforts and co-operation of Pakistan in eradication of financial crimes like 'Hawala Business' and formulating a strategy to fight against crimes of this nature.
Pakistan has extended helping hand to UNCTED in formulating a strategy to curb Hawala Business, said Mike Smith Executive Director of the UNCTED here on Wednesday during his meeting with Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik.
Smith also thanked Pakistan for this co-operation. He said that the world through the United Nations has felt the need to take stringent measures against terrorists in terms of arresting, prosecution and bringing them to justice. Talking to UNCTED chief, the Interior Minister said that Pakistan had already passed legislation for eradication of financial crimes, which is in the implementation process.
He apprised the UNCTED chief that Pakistan had taken action against terrorists, drug barons including Hawala Business. Due to effective measures of the government, remittances through legal channels have been increased, Malik added. The minister thanked Mike Smith for arranging a seminar for parliamentarians in Pakistan and taking keen interest in this regard.
