Chairman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan on Sunday questioned the Pakistan Army's role in the ongoing war on terror especially in the US drone attacks, saying that the fresh WikiLeaks revelations have tarnished its image. He announced to launch 'Save Pakistan Movement' to get rid of the rulers, whom he dubbed as 'US servants.'
Addressing the participants on the second day of PTI sit-in against the US drone attacks, staged at Jinnah Bridge, Keamari, he asked General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani to clarify Pakistan Army's position in wake of the fresh WikiLeaks revelations. He said the new revelations had made the army's credibility weak.
He announced to launch "Save Pakistan Movement" to oust the US-backed rulers, who failed in addressing masses' problems, create jobs, arrest soaring inflation and restore peace in the country.
Khan regretted that Pakistan had lost 35,000 people to the US war on terrorism, but Obama, instead of recognising the nation's sacrifices, threatened Pakistan with unilateral attacks. He also questioned whether the US is Pakistan's friend or foe?
Unveiling the party's strategy regarding the Save Pakistan Movement, he said PTI would practically cut off supply line of Nato if the US dared to attack Pakistan's tribal belt with drone missile. He said PTI would stage sit-ins in different parts of the country against the drone strikes.
He deplored that the rulers and parliamentarians had dashed the nation's hopes by failing to respond to the US drone attacks despite the unanimous resolution by the joint session of the parliament.
PTI Chief pledged to unite Pukhtuns and Urdu speaking ethnic groups in Karachi in first phase, following by Punjabis, Sindhis and Balochis to restore the peace and tranquillity in the country's largest city.
He challenged Pakistan Muslim League-N to organise gathering of such strength with thousands of people in Karachi, if it really believed to be the largest political party of the country. He criticised PML-N for accusing PTI of acting on ISI dictates, saying that the intelligence agency had supported Nawaz Sharif and bribed him with money.
Khan made it clear that his two-day sit-in was symbolic, however, in future PTI would practically disrupt Nato supplies if the US continued with the drone attacks.
He also announced to hold sit-ins in Multan, Lahore and then in Islamabad not only against the drone strikes but also against the corrupt and dishonest rulers. He asked the parliamentarians and rulers to resign in protest against the drone attacks. "If you [rulers and parliamentarians] have any shame resign from assemblies," he added.
He claimed that he could restore peace in the country within 90 days after coming into power. He also regretted the killing of five Chechens in Quetta by security personnel, saying it was the day of shame, which the nation had ever seen.
He accused the rulers of serving the US interests against Pakistan. He said the rulers would not make efforts to stop the killings of innocent people in the US drone attacks in tribal region of Pakistan.
He said personally he was not against the US but its imperialistic policies leading to killings of million of people in the world.
Three unanimous resolutions were passed on the occasion. One of the resolutions demanded of the government to cancel 7, 000 visas issued to foreign security personnel immediately. Another resolution demanded halt to US drone attacks.
Earlier, JI leader, Muhammad Hussain Mehanti blamed Pakistan's rulers for serving the US interest against the national one. He said the US continued its imperialistic policy with drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal belt despite the unanimous resolution passed by parliament against the attacks.
He said Pakistani rulers had succumbed to the John Kerry's pressure and therefore did not implement the very resolution. JI had also launched a drive called "Go America Go."
He urged all the anti-US political parties to get united for the purpose to force out the US from the region and scale down its influence in Pakistan's affairs. He lauded Imran Khan for his "courageous" step to hold sit-in in Karachi against the US.
Chief of Sunni Tehreek, Sarwat Ijaz Qadri, JI leader, Merajul Hudda Siddiqi, leaders of PTI, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Movement, and Sindh National Front also addressed the gathering.
