Senator Dr Babar Awan said on Sunday that a commission in line with a resolution passed by the Parliament on sovereignty of the country would be constituted after the prime minister's visit to abroad.
Addressing a press conference at the residence of Raja Riaz, opposition leader in Punjab Assembly, he rejected negative propaganda against the implementation of the resolution passed by the Parliament.
He said that nobody should score points on serious issues but, unfortunately, point-scoring was initiated in the largest province of the country.
He said, PML-N leaders Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif should end a self-imposed boycott of the Parliament as both the leaders have not been facing parliaments for months.
He said the leadership of all political parties should come to the Parliament as it was the centre of politics and democracy.
Dr Babar Awan said that the PPP wanted to ensure the supremacy of the Parliament at any cost and the PPP-led government had proved it by arranging the briefing by the leadership of the security agencies to the Parliament. He invited Mian Nawaz Sharif to contest elections on PPP's ticket and join parliament, adding it would not only expose his popularity but also provide him with a chance to reach parliament. Dr Babar said, the PPP considered the supremacy of the Parliament as a constitutional requirement and expected from the PML-N leadership the same.
He criticised the Punjab government for not purchasing wheat from farmers and said that the rulers of Punjab should immediately order departments concerned to buy wheat from poor farmers. He alleged that the Punjab government wanted to close projects for poor people launched or operated with the co-operation of UNICEF, UNESCO and World Bank, like the clean drinking water project.
He said that law enforcement agencies could not be privatised and the Punjab government wanted to stop security projects which were being operated with the help of foreign aid.
