Managing Director, Pakistan Telecommu-nications Company (PTCL), Walid Irshad has informed the business community that the company would invest about rupees 16 billion in the telecommunications sector in next five years. Speaking at a meeting of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati), he said PTCL is going to introduce super-speed Internet in near future.
He said that the service would be initiated from Kati. He said that most modern exchanges would now be installed in Pakistan, while the company would introduce new generation telephone exchange in Karachi soon. About the subscribers' complaints, he said that the company has already minimised them, adding that with the opening of new services and telephone exchanges, the complaints would become nil.
Chairman Kati, Syed Johar Ali Qandhari said in his welcome address that telecommunications play vital role in trade and industry and PTCL has improved its performance over the years. He, however, said that sometimes industrialists face hardships in using broadband and Internet, which needs to be addressed. He proposed that PTCL should set up a full-fledged cell at Kati so that subscribers' woes could be addressed.
Former Chairman Kati, Mian Zahid Husain said on this occasion that there has been a revolution in the telecommunication sector in Pakistan over the last one decade and PTCL has played a vital role in the spread of telecommunication technology. He further said that though complaints of the subscribers have become insignificant, the mindset of lower level employees needs to be changed so that the company becomes able to address complaints in a real manner. In his address, Vice Chairman Kati, Shahid Javed Qureshi pointed out that PTCL's latest product EVO 9.3 is having signal problems in some areas of the city while its charges are higher as compared to other companies' services.
