KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday arrested 12 officials and employees of Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and two private persons after the Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected their bail applications in the case pertaining to China cutting of 23 amenity plots.

The SHC bench headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh turned down the bail pleas of KDA’s Clerks Recovery— Sagheer Ahmed, Jahanzaib Iqbal and Muhammad Jumman—, Superintendents Recovery— Akhter Rasheed, Khuda Bux Soomro and Sarfaraz Ahmed—, DDO Shifting— Irfan Khan Yousufzai, Muhammad Kamran Warsi and Atif Naqvi— and two private persons who were beneficiaries— Feroze Bengali and Irfan Ahmed and asked the corruption watchdog to arrest them.

Consequently, the NAB arrested above mentioned accused and shifted them to its office.

The accused persons were nominated in the corruption reference filed against them in the Accountability Court for leasing out 23 amenity plots and sold them illegally.

According to NAB, the accused persons in connivance with each had made China cutting of 23 amenity plots located at Gulistan e Johar Karachi and converting them illegally into 296 residential plots.

The total loss caused to the national exchequer was above Rs. 1.5 billion.
