A roadside bomb has struck a passenger bus in south-western Afghanistan, killing at least 13 civilians, including women and children, and injuring 30 others, officials said Friday. The incident took place in the Deh Mazang area of Nimroz province late Thursday, provincial police chief Jabar Purdili said.
He also said 18 of those injured were in serious condition. Afghan civilians have made up the majority of the victims of the nearly decade-long war in Afghanistan. May was the deadliest month for the civilian population with at least 360 killed, 82 per cent in insurgent attacks, according to the United Nations.
