Chairman All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) Gohar Ejaz has said the textile industry pins hope on Dr Asim Hussain, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, for implementation of five days a week uninterrupted gas supply to industry from 10th July.
The Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) has decided to ensure equitable sharing of gas in the country, assuring supply of additional 76 million cubic feet of gas to the textile industry from July 10th onwards. The chairman appreciated the measures introduced by the federal government for ensuring the gas supply to the textile industry subsequent to the ECC decision for implementation of further curtailment of gas supply to CNG, fertilisers and IPPs on SNGPL network.
The chairman Aptma said the federal minister for petroleum held meeting with Aptma members over the weekend and assured implementation of the ECC decisions in letter and spirit. The meeting was largely attended by the membership representing all sub-sectors of the industry and representatives of processing and sizing industry of Faisalabad, he added.
He said the textile industry would work five days a week following the supply of additional gas. Gohar said the textile industry was already facing gas shortage since April, incurring a loss of $1.52 billion till date. He said the textile industry could not afford further curtailment in the face of upcoming bumper cotton crop and high export target of $2o billion in 20110-12.
The prevailing energy crisis has also resulted in hindrance to new investment in the sector, he added. The chairman Aptma said the textile industry was grateful to the federal minister for meeting Aptma members and assuring them of equitable and transparent sharing of gas in the country from July 10 onwards.
