Plea in Supreme Court: 300 'homeless' people seek cancellation of CDA housing scheme

A total of 300 homeless persons on Monday filed an application in Supreme Court (SC), seeking cancellation of Park Enclave Housing Scheme, recently announced by Capital Development Authority (CDA), planned for the rich, and prayed to convert it into low-income housing scheme.
Applicant Muhammad Siddique prayed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry that CDA has launched a mega housing scheme for a specific segment of the society, measuring 761 acres where they would be allotted 700 plots against Rs 12 million per kanal.
He pleaded that it was human rights violation of middle class because they would not be able to purchase the plots; so they prayed that plots in Park Enclave Housing Scheme may be converted to 5 or 6 marlas, for which payment be allowed in instalments of 20 years.
In addition, it was contended that it would be logical to provide plots to 12,000 applicants instead of 700 people in the capital, adding that CDA was violating its master plan because the body was not acquiring land but giving authorisation to housing societies who escalated the price of land. They also prayed that till provision of plots to the Islamabad dwellers no other person be allotted residential plots along with ban on every kind of quota.
