The group exhibition of paintings, Naqashi and relieves concluded here on Tuesday at Nomad Art Gallery featuring old architecture of Mughal era, cultural heritage of Pakistan and beautifully decorated women. The collection of paintings was the creation of a group of women from Lahore who refined their aesthetic works highlighting and linking the culture of old Lahore in all its vibrancy and enticing architecture through various mediums with a prime focus on Wazir Khan Mosque.
Professional artist Kulsoom Aftab also displayed some of her sensitive photography and relieves. She is a graduate from National College of Arts and has been painting bottles for last seven years with the theme of comparing ethnic bottles as a beautiful decorated woman.
"My theme is ethnic that relates bottles to the decorated woman, some appear as dancing girls while others look like the Mughal Maharanis," Kulsoom said. The group of women captured their skills in the technique of Naqashi and beautifully painted life-size panels to show their link with Lahore's interior part. Their Naqashi was based on historical decorative motifs that feature a blend of Arab, Turkish and Persian styles.
These artists have portrayed their mission to highlight Pakistan's rich heritage and promote emerging artisans through contemporary hand-painted tiles and bowls inspired by traditions. The show was an attempt to preserve the dying heritage for art-lovers to enjoy the glimpses of Wazir Khan Mosque in both photography and Naqashi and also the beautiful yet intricate Mughal relieves in terracotta.
