The Board of Directors of ICI Pakistan Limited has approved installation of two coal-fired boilers for its soda ash plant at Khewra, with an investment of over Rs 2 billion.
According to an information sent to Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), this major investment is focused on addressing the energy deficit faced by the company due to deteriorating supply of natural gas, affecting plant output and efficiencies.
The company plans to install boilers for steam generation based on state of the art coal-fired technology.
This project is expected to be completed, and commissioned, in 19 months. With the commissioning of the project, the soda ash plant, having a capacity to produce 350,000 tons per year, will be better placed to serve its customers, the company said.
