An IPO is one way for private equity companies to raise capital in the growth and development stage and is a critical factor for the success of an economy. Although, Pakistan's capital market offers great horizons and opportunities both for green-field projects as well as for other industrial sectors which can enable such companies to plan their growth with public investments through listing.
However, there has never been any co-ordinated effort to pro-actively pursue the potential companies for listings. The result of this inaction has been that Pakistan's capital market is rather seen as a place for secondary trading of shares than a serious place for mobilisation of the capital to support the progress of the new companies and the advance of the national economy.
It is in this context that the South Asian Federation of Exchanges (SAFE) has conceived of the first ever event called "Pakistan IPO Summit" so as to serve as a unique platform to build co-operation between the representatives of the companies that are considering public offerings and the investment/financial services industry which is seeking to create new investment opportunities for the domestic and global investors. The summit is also aimed to highlight the potential of the domestic capital market as a source to generate adequate capital in support of the new investment opportunities existing in our economy.
Objectives of the Summit
aThe Pakistan IPO summit shall highlight the benefits and the pathway to managing a successful initial public offering to such potential companies which are considering a debut as a public listing company. The event will aim to provide a complete understanding of all the fundamental IPO issues as well as the challenges for the regulatory compliance that the potential companies may face following their listing. The summit will also highlight as to how a Public listing can help the potential companies to attain better valuations and how to plan effective succession and control through better corporate governance.
Along with the plethora of IPO and capital market professionals providing expert analysis and opinion on the state of the country's equity market, the summit will also bring together the foremost investment experts to provide an understanding about market trends and opportunities that can guide the companies in their IPO timings.
A Place to Network and Learn
The summit shall serve as a key opportunity for potential companies, investment experts, regulators and market leaders to discuss the advantages of listing, macro-economic issues affecting IPOs, regulatory compliance standards and the role of stock exchange in financing growth activities in an economy. In addition, the IPO Summit will also act as a meeting place for the leaders of the largest private businesses considering IPO with the investment banking professionals, underwriters, brokerage industry representatives and the management of the stock exchanges all under one roof to help in their information needs and decision making.
