Nearly 300 mothers out of total of 100,000 die during childbirth in Pakistan in various complications related to pregnancy, the highest in the world. This was disclosed here Sunday by a renowned gynaecologist, Dr Haroon Latif Khan while addressing a workshop held at Lahore Institute of Fertility and Endocrinology, (LIFE).
He said federal government is spending a hefty amount and Punjab health department is endeavouring to bring down mothers' mortality rate during child delivery from 300 to 140 by 2015. He stressed the urgent need that special attention should be focused on ante and post natal care of women to minimise the mortality rate in mothers.
Dr Haroon said that for first time in the country, another ultra modern microscopic techniques have also been introduced at LIFE to enable such males having very lower number of sperms count or have negligible sperms counts to father a child. He said that these modern techniques also help ensure pregnancies to weak couples. He said that a woman's fertility starts declining after 35 years, therefore, younger the patient, more chances of success are with IVF (Test Tube Baby) treatment.
He advised the couples who do not conceive after two years of wedding, must consult the qualified gynaecologist immediately for proper investigation and treatment. He strictly warned couples in this regard never consult midwives, Quacks and even general practitioners that spoil the delicate and sensitive natural system.
"Dr Rashid Latif Khan has set a first ever record by producing over several thousands healthy and normal test tube babies which includes scores of set of quadruplet, triplet and twin not only in the country but also in sub-continent.
This has taken place in a short span of time besides achieving several thousands successful pregnancies by other than test tube methods," he added.
