University of Health Sciences (UHS) will conduct a single common Entrance Test this year for both FSc and Non-FSc students, simultaneously in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Sahiwal, D.G. Khan, Hassan Abdal and Rahim Yar Khan on September 13.
The UHS vice-chancellor Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar said this while addressing an "Orientation Seminar on Medical Colleges Admission Test" here at Al-Hamra Arts Council on Friday. About 3000 students and their parents attended the seminar. Professor Hussain Mubbashar told the gathering that the UHS would continue with the "Self Scoring System" introduced by the UHS in 2009. He said the candidates would be able to calculate their scores with the help of carbonised copy of their response, which they would retain after the test.
He said that there would be a single question paper consisting of 220 objective type questions, divided into four sections, namely: Physics (44 questions), Chemistry (58 questions), English (30 questions) and Biology (88 questions). The duration of the test would be 150 minutes. The test would start at 09:00 am and conclude at 11:30 am.
UHS VC further said that after the test, candidates would be asked to answer an aptitude test and fill in the feedback forms, for which extra 30 minutes would be given to them. He said that because aptitude testing was being introduced for the first time in medical entrance test, there would be no marks assigned to it this year. However, from next year, some numbers would be given to aptitude testing in the entrance test score.
Professor Mubbashar said that candidates who have secured at least 60 per cent marks in FSc (Pre Medical) or equivalent examination were eligible to apply for Entrance Test. Those awaiting result, should provide a hope certificate issued by the principal of their respective institution clearly stating that the candidate was expected to secure at least 60 per cent marks in his/her FSc or equivalent examination, he said.
To a query, he said that students having domicile of any district of Punjab, Islamabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan would be eligible to appear in the test. He also informed that there would be no fee for medical entrance test. Entrance Test kits would be available free of cost at UHS and other public sector medical and dental colleges of the province from August 20. Last date for receipt of application would be September 07. Once a candidate has submitted his/her application, the duty staff will issue roll number and admittance card on the spot.
Professor Mubbashar said that candidates would be allowed to choose the city from where they wish to appear in the test. However, centre once allotted would not change subsequently, he added. He advised the candidates to reach their respective centres at least one hour before the commencement of the test, as centre would be sealed at 08:15 am and after that nobody would be allowed to enter the examination hall.
He also warned that there would be negative marking in the test. For each wrong answer one mark would be deducted from the total score. Each correct answer would carry 05 marks, he added. As per regulations of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), the merit of a candidate would be worked out by adding the marks of matriculation, intermediate and entrance test in the ratio of 10:40:50, respectively.
