The rupee fell against dollar on the currency market on Thursday in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee surrendered overnight firmness in terms of dollar, losing five paisa for buying and selling at 86.35 and 86.40, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the fourth Asian trade euro edged up from lows against major currencies but was seen vulnerable to renewed selling pressure as worries about the euro zone sovereign debt crisis spread to the region's banking sector.
A storm of market rumours questioning the financial solidity of a major French bank and talk of an impending downgrade of France's credit rating, all denied by authorities, rattled already shaky market confidence. The US dollar stayed on the defensive as investors were reluctant to hold on to longs after the Federal Reserve pledged to keep interest rates near zero for two years and left the door open to adding more stimulus if needed.
Greenback was trading at Rs 45.25 against the Indian rupee, the dollar was available at 3.0110 Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was trading at 6.3973 Chinese yuan per dollar.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shed five paisa versus dollar for buying and selling at 86.10 and 86.30, they added. The rupee, however, gained 91 paisa in relation to for buying and selling at Rs 122.49 and Rs 122.99, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee maintained downward slide and further lost five paisa against the greenback in the local kerb market on Thursday.
According to the moneychangers, the dollar was opened on a positive sign and appreciated its worth following fresh demand. At the end of trading, the dollar was closed higher at Rs 86.10 and Rs 86.30 on buying and selling sides against the day earlier closing of Rs 86.05 and Rs 86.25, respectively.
On the contrary, the rupee continued to rise and improved its value against the British pound. The pound's buying and selling rates were declined from Wednesday closing of Rs 140.20 and Rs 141.00 to Rs 139.80 and Rs 140.80, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.35 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.35 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.35 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling) against the overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.35 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling).
