The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Thursday handed over relief goods worth Rs 15 million to the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) to be dispatched to the flood affected areas.
Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industry donated blankets, dates, soaps, eatables and items of daily use, which were jointly received by Iranian Consul General in Lahore Ali Nekan, LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik and Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khalid Sher Dil at the Lahore Cantt Railway Station.
LCCI Senior Vice President, Sheikh Mohammad Arshad and former LCCI President Mohsin Raza Bukhari were also present on the occasion. Iranian Consul General, Ali Nekan said that Iranian people keep their Pakistani brothers in high esteem and cannot leave them alone in the hour of need. He said that the goods have been selected keeping in view the day-to-day needs of the flood-hit people and in consultation with the LCCI. He paid rich tributes to LCCI for making consistent and persistent efforts aimed at facilitating the flood-affected people.
The president LCCI said that an arrangement with the DMA has been finalised for the distribution of relief goods in the flood-hit area. He thanked the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for sending the relief goods and said that a judicious distribution would be ensured. The president LCCI said that the LCCI was constructing 150 houses in Layyah, Shahbazabad and other affiliated areas. He said that possession of 50 houses was given to the affected families while 100 houses would be completed soon. He said that the LCCI was in constant contact with the local administration in the flood-hit areas.
