A bar member has approached the Lahore High Court praying to direct the respondent government to hold local bodies elections. Petitioner Rana Illam Din Ghazi also prayed the court to direct the election commissioner to make all necessary steps for holding local bodies elections. The petitioner further prayed the court to declare the appointment of the administrators as illegal and direct the respondent government to restore the local bodies governments.
The petitioner contended in his petition that local bodies ordinance was made to enable the people to resolve their problems at local level. But respondent government instead of holding fresh elections appointed administrators. He said the action of the respondent government to appoint administrators instead of holding elections was against article 23 of the constitution.
