Sindh High Court on Thursday deferred passing order on a petition seeking judicial inquiry through a larger bench of the high court into May 12, 2007 mayhem in Karachi.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Imam Bux Baloch, directed the office to fix the petition after Eid-ul-Fitr seeking inquiry into the killing of 50 people and injuring over hundred in riots in Karachi on arrival of then deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Human Rights activist, Syed Iqbal Kazmi, has filed petition in SHC making then President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd), MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, former Interior Secretary, former Sindh Home Minister Waseem Akhtar, former Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, former Sindh Home Secretary Brigadier Ghulam Muhammad Mohtaram (Retd), ex-Chiefs of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, Sindh Police, Karachi Police and then SHO City Courts police station as respondents.
Another miscellaneous application has been filed requesting to recall order passed on November 11, 2007, wherein the petitioner was allowed to withdraw his petition by an SHC full bench. On previous hearing, SHC had warned petitioner Syed Iqbal Kazmi to appear on next date of hearing, otherwise the petition would be dismissed. On Thursday, the case was fixed for passing order and the petitioner also appeared on notice. SHC division bench deferred passing order on petition and directed office to fix the matter after Eidul Fitr.
