At least two persons, who said to be terrorists, were killed in a mysterious bomb blast at Gulshan-e-Iqbal town in the remits of Mobina Town police station on Tuesday. According to police and eye-witnesses, a powerful bomb planted in a bike which carried two alleged pillion riders went off near Classic Garden, Abul Hassan Isphani road.
They said the explosive device went off when the bike slipped in mire developed after heavy downpour at Block 4-A Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Following the said incident, the law enforcers, investigators, rescuers of different organisations and experts of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) rushed to the spot and engaged in rescue work. Police said the identities of the victims could not be ascertained as the bodies were completely shattered because of high intensity of the blast.
SP Waqar Mallan said the bike slipped when the culprits took immediate U-turn due to snap checking that caused to explode the explosive device. He claimed that both pillion riders, who belonged to any terrorist organisation, were on the way to commit terrorist activity in the city.
The officials of BDS said the device carried 4kgs of high explosive, ball bearing and other stuff. They said the first live bomb was recovered at Baghdadi precincts on last Monday while this was second bomb that accidentally went off at Gulshan-e-Iqbal. They claimed that both bombs were prepared by the same terrorist organisation with the aim to sabotage Eid celebrations. The bodies were shifted to morgue after autopsy at JPMC hospital till identification.
