District Coordination Officer (DCO), Karachi, Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that oral polio vaccine would be administered to over 2.3 million children under the age of five years during the next polio eradication campaign in the city. He said that 400 additional lady health workers would take part in the campaign scheduled to be carried out from 19 to 21st September 2011.
Any negligence by the health workers in the three-day campaign would not be tolerated and action would be taken against the whole team instead of one or two persons, he warned. The DCO said this while addressing a meeting of the district task force on polio eradication on Monday.
The meeting was attended by EDO Health Dr Nasir Javed, Town Administrators, Health Officers and others. The DCO stressed the need of union council level work for eradication of polio disease. He said that the virus could be controlled by introducing a micro management programme. He directed the concerned officials to concentrate on the 61 high-risk union councils to make it a success. Dr Nasir Javed and a representative of World Health Organisation Yahya Abdul Ghaffar also addressed the meeting.
