Authorities say that a plane crash that sparked a fire near a central California mountain community killed two people. One death was reported earlier. But fire official Sean Collins says two died when the small plane went down shortly before noon Sunday. Collins told The Associated Press early Monday that it's still not clear how many people were on the plane. No one has been hurt because of the fire.
Collins says that the blaze has since mushroomed to 3,500 acres (1,400 hectares) and residents of at least 100 homes én Tehachapi were forced to flee. He says more evacuations are likely. One house burned to the ground. About 600 fire-fighters are working to contain the blaze.
