Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday moved National Assembly against Rs 2.4 per unit rise in power tariff and technical fault in two Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) planes. The major opposition party submitted two separate adjournment motion to Lower House in this regard, urging the Speaker to allow debate on the most important issues of public importance in the up-coming session scheduled for next Monday.
In the first adjournment motion signed by Rana Tanveer Hussain, Khurram Dastageer, Saira Afzal Tarar, Chaudhry Bashir Virak, Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan and others, the lawmakers expressed deep concerns over the recent hike in power tariff, saying that the increase is unjust that triggered anger among the masses.
They also flayed the government for the tariff hike, saying it is inappropriate that on one hand the masses are facing worse load shedding, while on the other the government continued to increase the electricity charges. While in the second adjournment motion, signed by Chaudhry Birjees Tahir, Tahira Aurangzeb, Malik Shakeel Awan, Dr Darshan and others, the PML-N's parliamentarians expressed shock while diverting attention of the Lower House towards three incidents with regard to PIA planes that happened within 36 hours.
They stated that engines of two PIA planes failed while fire was erupted in engine of the third plane and all these incidents happened within 36 hours, which is a matter of great concern, they added. The legislators stated that it was necessary that the national flag carrier should adopt measures to ensure safety of the passengers as well as of the planes.
