Sindh police on Monday claimed to have arrested 13 suspects including 10 target killers in separate raids at various parts of the metropolis and seized huge cache of weapons. According to sources, the Anti Extremist Cell (AEC) of Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have arrested four target killers with weapons.
They said the team headed by SSP Chaudhry Aslam on a tipoff conducted raid at Rasheedabad, Baldia Town and arrested four target killers namely Anees-ur-Rehman, Abdul Rehman, Aslam and Pirzada and recovered Kalashnikov, three pistols and several rounds from their possessions.
They said the detained persons during initial course of investigation confessed to have involved in eight cases of targeted killings including an activist of Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf namely Hafeez ur Rehman alias 'Bottle' in April 2009, activist of Pakistan Peoples Party, Qamar Abbas alias Gogi in May 2009, Sunni Tehreek (ST) activist Farhan Qadri and his wife in Baldia in April 2011, ANP UC-7 Baldia president Khalid Khan in May 2010 and another PPP activist namely Zafar alias 'Supari' in August 2010. They said they were also involved in many cases of riots and added that Anees is the ringleader.
The CID had also arrested a suspect, who was allegedly involved in rape and murder case of a minor girl at Gulshan Iqbal. The sources said the team headed by SSP Fayyaz Khan conducted raid at Gulshan Iqbal area and arrested a man namely Alam Khan Mehsud who was allegedly involved in rape and murder of a minor girl at Sohrab Goth. The case 574/11 was registered against him at Sohrab Goth police station. Further investigation was under way.
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh police had also arrested a target killer who was involved in the murder of nine persons including five activists of banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP). According to the SIU officials, the accused person namely Javed Hanif, who belonged to one of the religious parties, was arrested at New Karachi Industrial Area. They said the accused during initial course of investigation admitted to have murdered nine persons including five SSP activists.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Zone East also claimed to have taken two target killers namely Sher Ul Hakeem and Amjad into custody from Quaidabad and recovered a SMG, a 7mm riffle, a Triple-2 rifle and a pistol from their possession. The officials said the accused persons, who were involved in the killings of four political workers, belonged to one of the political parties.
Meanwhile, Zaman Town and Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police arrested five suspects namely Amjad, Sher Hafiz, Mohammad Rehan, Mohammad Akram and Imran in separate raids at Korangi No 1 1/2 and Zareena Colony, North Karachi and recovered five TT pistols and dozens of rounds from their possessions.
