Mohajir Qaumi Movement- Haqiqi (MQM-H) chief Afaq Ahmed was detained for one month under the Maintenance of Public Order, soon after his release on bail by the Sindh High Court, on Wednesday. The home department had issued a notification that Afaq Ahmad would remain in detention for one month as his release could hamper peace in Karachi.
Earlier, the Sindh High Court had ordered the release of Afaq on bail in Atiq-ur-Rehman murder case. This was the last case against the MQM-H chairman. Afaq was booked in murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist Atiq-ur-Rehman by the Nabi Bux police in June 2009 and the trial court had rejected the acquittal plea of the applicant.
During the proceedings of the case, Afaq's counsel Mohammad Farooq contended that no evidence against the MQM-H chief was found by police and hence his client had nothing to do with the offence because he had been in jail since April 2004, and the case was registered on June 20, 2009.
