ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Wednesday directed Jahangir Tareen owner of JDW sugar mills to submit plan of buying sugarcane from farmers on government rates otherwise court will pass orders to open closed mills for crushing.
A 3-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also dismissed plea of four sugar mills including three mills of Sharif family seeking stay order on Lahore High Court verdict regarding transferring mills from south Punjab to central Punjab.
Chief Justice remarked that court will not allow any one to kill farmers financially or not allow to run their bussines illegally as well.
Cheif Justice remarked that if any mill was transferred from central Punjab to South Punjab illegally then it had to shift back however appeals were admissible for hearing.
Chief Justice asked from the counsels for the petitioners apprised the bench that from three months work at these mills were stopped and requested to grant stay order against the decision of LHC.
Counsel of the petitioner apprised the court that due to closed mills no one buying sugarcane from farmers, sugarcane field was drying and children of the farmers were crying with hunger. Chief Justice remarked that court will supervise this issue and not let farmers left alone adding this year farmer will not suffer loss.
While talking to Aitzaz Ahsan counsel for the DW said that your client Jahangir would purchase sugarcane from farmers on official rate adding that why not the court summoned Mr. Jahangir Tareen on next hearing.
Subsequently, the bench adjourned further hearing of rhe case till January 11.
It is pertinent to mention here that Four Sugar Milla including, Haseeb Waqas mills, Chuadry Sugar Mills, Itifaq Sugar Mills and Abdullah Sugar mills apprised SC against LHC orders to shift back their mills to central Punjab within three months.
