Vivo becomes first brand to launch on-screen fingerprint sensor
Last week it was being said that Vivo will outclass Samsung by launching a new smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Vivo has put all the rumors to rest by launching first smartphone ever to have an on-display fingerprint sensor, at At Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 being held in Las Vegas.
The smartphone was highly anticipated and there were rumors revolving that Samsung will be the first one to bring this feature to reality. However, it turned out that the Chinese manufacturer Vivo marked itself as the world’s first brand ever to introduce this feature. The launch of this feature sets it as a trendsetter of future smartphones.
The on-screen fingerprint sensor was supported by global partner Synaptics and provides users with an experience never felt before. Due to no home button, the phone’s screen has been made wider and is also entirely bezel-less.
Vivo to outclass Samsung by offering on-screen fingerprint sensor
As per Mashable, the fingerprint sensor that is embedded under the screen works in a simple way. In order to register the fingerprint, the user has to place the finger on an icon located at the screen’s bottom and the phone will do the scanning process just like it’s done in usual smartphones. To unlock it, the user would have to simply place the finger over the icon and gently press it and the ultrasonic icon placed under the screen creates a 3D map of the print on the OLED display.
The in-display fingerprint could be used for unlocking, mobile payment, authentication, and other operations. When the fingerprint is not needed, the icon will disappear and not interrupt the visual experience.
Tech Juice informed that the details such as specifications, name, launch date and price have not yet been revealed. Vivo’s Senior Vice President Alex Feng expressed, “Today’s showcase of a ready-to-produce in-display fingerprint scanning smartphone featuring an optical fingerprint sensor is a big leap forward in bringing consumers this long-awaited, futuristic mobile experience. We are very excited to make it available to consumers soon.”
