A Swiss regional prosecutor investigating a dispute between FC Sion and European football's governing body heard from both UEFA president Michel Platini and secretary-general Gianni Infantino on Wednesday. Neither made any comments to the media, but FC Sion president Christian Constantin, claimed that the two contradicted each other during the hearing.
"Michel Platini said he followed the advice of the secretary-general" and that "for him, the law of UEFA is above that of state law," said Constantin. However, "the secretary-general said that he had advised Platini to ... follow the decision of the cantonal court," added the boss of FC Sion.
The Swiss side has taken UEFA and FIFA to several regional courts in Switzerland after it was thrown out of the Europa League for fielding ineligible players. No charges have been made against Platini, but he was summoned by the prosecutor to explain how the league games are organised and the importance of regulations in sports. A Vaud cantonal court had earlier ordered UEFA to reinstate FC Sion to the league. In case of non-compliance, the football body would be fined.
