Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman on Saturday called upon the government to take parliament into confidence about US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit. He expressed willingness to help prepare ground for negotiations with Taliban and Haqqani Network.
Speaking at a news conference after the party's Central Executive Committee meeting, he urged the government to implement in letter and spirit the resolution unanimously passed by All Parties Conference (APC) in the national security. He warned the government of further difficulties in future if it ignored implementation of the APC resolution.
He said that the party's CEC also expressed concern over the repeated US drone attacks in tribal areas, saying if these strikes continued, the APC resolution would be meaningless. He strongly advocated talks with Taliban saying if the US itself was trying to negotiate with Taliban in Afghanistan why it was putting pressure on Pakistan for military action against them?
He was of the view that Siraj-ud-Din Haqqani, chief of the Haqqani Network, has joined Mullah Omer-led Taliban movement and now it was a faction of Tehrik-e-Taliban Afghanistan, how can the US ask for military action against one organ of the movement? He questioned.
Fazl accused Washington of destabilising Pakistan by forcing Islamabad to move against the Haqqanis, which did not exist in the country. He said the nation should remain vigilant to defeat the US designs. He said the JUI-F CEC also discussed the debate on creation of new provinces in the country, saying formation of new provinces requires legislations and the government lacks two-third majority so it should not exploit public sentiments on the issue.
The JUI-F chief said the meeting also expressed sorrow over the killing of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and demanded of the United Nations to conduct criminal investigation into the matter, terming it violation of the international laws. He said Gaddafi was the only Arab leader who was hurdle in the way of US nefarious design to occupy Arab oil resources. "The US has removed the only remaining obstacle in its way to control natural resources of the Arab world," he maintained.
He was of the view that capitalism has completely failed adding that his party would mobilise public against this system in light of Islamic teachings. Criticising the government policies, he announced that his party would also start mass contact drive in coming days against the government failure to cope with energy crisis, alleged corruption and price hike, adding that masses are fed up of the PPP-led government. He also called for effective legislation to curb corruption.
In reply to a question, Maulana said in his view the parliament should complete its term. He said the parliament was effective while the government was 'ineffective' in delivering its mandate. "If the people feel that the 'ineffective' government has failed to deliver they should come forward for a change," he added. He was of the view that it was the responsibility of the PML-N being a major opposition party in the parliament holding the office of leader of the opposition to come forward to unite all the opposition parties.
