The Government of Japan decides to extend financial support of US $105,629 (approx.Rs 8.8million) to Kohsar Welfare Society (KWS) for the Construction of 7-km long Concrete Link Road in Village Lower Chalawara, Kotli Sattian, District Rawalpindi, Punjab.
The agreement for the project was signed on Monday here at the Japanese Ambassador's residence between Hiroshi OE, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and Dr Muhammad Kahir, President of KWS. At present, the inhabitants of Village Lower Chalawara are facing severe problems due to unpaved and uneven passage. The travel to and from the village has been difficult for women, small children, the elderly and the ill. The situation further aggravates in the rainy season, as this route becomes impassable for vehicles.
Upon successful completion of this project, vehicles will be able to commute smoothly and public transport will be able to link the villages for increased access to education, medical services and business activities. The project will help facilitate the services to 400 households (around 4,500 individuals) of the target village and the adjacent areas.
Ambassador GE stressed that infrastructural improvement and rural development is one of the priorities in Japanese assistance policy towards Pakistan, hoping that the project would help the local community to increase daily activities and improve their quality of life in the future and hence, it would certainly strengthen the existing friendly relations between the peoples of Japan and Pakistan.-PR
