Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jahangir has said that the judiciary is performing its constitutional duty by keeping a check on the performance of the government. He said that now government functionaries could not influence the judiciary.
She said this while addressing annual meeting of SCBA and added that judiciary is the part of democratic process and added that there is no concept of justice without democracy. She appreciated lawyers for launching movement for independence of judiciary and said had they not been out on roads, the judiciary would had not been restored.
About appointment of judges in superior courts, Asma said merit is not being observed and added that women should also be elevated to bench. She said if executive would try to deviate from implementation of apex court decisions, the lawyers and bar council would not be allowed it to do so.
