The country is in shambles with its economy near collapse, state institutions dismantled and rendered dysfunctional, writ of the State nowhere to be seen, vital services such as the Pakistan Railways and the national flag carrier, PIA gone bankrupt, Steel Mills now reduced to an archaeological ruin and truly a monument of engineered corruption.
If one were to understand the reasons for the collapse of the railways, he or she only has to take a look at the railways' minister, Ghulam Ahmad Bilour and just hear him talk, presenting a real challenge to both a psychiatrist and a speech therapist to fathom his weird thought process and decipher the meanings of what he says. Bilour, sounds like an old coal-fired stuttering steam engine, struggling to move, reflecting the current state of affairs of the railways. Simply pathetic!
The rest of the other federal ministries, including finance, commerce and petroleum, are also no better. The rot must be stopped. The viable, doable and constitutionally correct steps to be taken to remove the present government would be for the Opposition to unite, tender mass resignations from Senate, national and provincial assemblies and for the PML-N leadership to dissolve the Punjab provincial assembly.
This would be an opportunity to form an interim government of competent, honest and capable technocrats to put the country on the road to recovery, organise, hold and conduct the next general elections, at an appropriate time, under the supervision of the judiciary and armed forces, in a most transparent manner.
Simultaneously, an independent and corruption free Election Commission should be constituted which disqualify, across the board, the corrupt, tainted politicians and individuals.
