Senators while criticising the cricket players involved in the spot-fixing scandal said that they had brought bad name to the country. Colonel Thair Hussain Mashhadi (Retd) on point of order said that the nation gave respect and money to the cricketers but in return they disgraced the country internationally.
He said that Senate's Standing Committee on Sports had declared them guilty one and half years ago and recommended to remove Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but no heed was paid to the recommendation. He proposed setting up sports body under the Senate to monitor PCB affairs in future.
Senator Syed Sajid Hussain Zaidi of PML-F said that a proper constitution should be prepared for running the affairs of PCB and no one should be appointed its chairman on the basis of favouritism. Senator Tariq Azim of PML-Q said that as many as four committees including Senate and National Assembly have recommended removal of the PCB Chairman but their recommendations were not implemented.
