Nurses in Multan staged a sit-in on Thursday on the second day of their protest, demanding salary packages similar to the ones announced for the doctors by the government. The Young Nurses Association organised demonstration outside Nishtar Hospital under the leadership of President Samina Kifayatullah and Senior Vice President Rukhsana Ibrahim. The protest demonstration was also joined by the nurses of Cardiology Institute, civil hospital and children complex.
They said that a nurse attends at least 80 patients in hospitals, which is impossible and against the international norms. They demanded of the government to announce a salary package for nurses similar to the one announced for doctors. According to the proposed package, the minimum salary of a nurse should be Rs 50,000, a head nurse Rs 70,000, a nursing superintendent Rs 80,000 and a chief nursing superintendent Rs 120,000. They also demanded the recruitment of 1500 more nurses at the Nishtar Hospital. They also demanded promotions, high-risk allowance and an increase in their pay scales. Nurses demanded for construction of a separate colony for nurses, Grade 18 for nursing instructors and one step promotion be granted to all nurses. They vowed to continue their protest till the acceptance of their demands.
