Employees of the defunct Karachi Development Authority (KDA) have called for early restoration of the authority's status so as to end the state of uncertainty among the employees. The fate of the KDA is yet to be decided despite the restoration of Commissionerate System of 1979 while the KDA wing, which was previously under City District Government Karachi (CDGK), is still a defunct department.
KDA employees are demanding revival of the authority to bring it under the Commissionerate System of 1979, which is in place in the province after the lapse of Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001. The KDA was functional and was dealing with land and revenue issues of metropolitan before the enactment of Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) in 2001. But, after promulgation of the SLGO, KDA was declared defunct and some of its wings were brought under CDGK's Land & Revenue Department.
The employees of the authority say they have not been paid salaries for the last two months, which is causing immense financial problems for them as they are unable to meet their routine expenses. They said bureaucratic hurdles are also responsible for the delay in timely release of salaries as the concerned officials of Sindh government paid less heeds towards the grievances of the KDA employees.
