In the budget 2011-12, federal and provincial governments have increased pension of their retired employees by 20 percent. It is a good and commendable gesture. Unluckily, National Bank of Pakistan which is an autonomous body, earning huge profits, did nothing for its pensioners. Most of the pensioners have no other source of income except their pensions.
Pensioners spent their young age for the promotion of their bank. Now it is crystal clear that prices of all commodities are increasing day-by-day. It has become difficult to survive on this meagre pension. I therefore, request the President and Board of Directors of NBP to pay special heed to the affairs of its retired employees and increase their pensions as per policy of the SBP or its own.
