On one of the news channels a report showed the misery of the students in Government College for Women in Rawalpindi where students are mostly deprived of basic necessities. They do not have any chairs or desks and are forced to sit on the floor. These young girls would still learn, may be much better because they are suffering and know the value of education.
The condition is the same in the other 12 government colleges of the city as well, which were established in different areas for women education. The big question is where does all budget go when the condition of the institutions is deplorable. The most important aspect is that these colleges have nearly 90 teachers. These teachers have completed more than 10 years of service but they are still working on contract. If the teacher's mind is worried all the time about the future, how can they teach effectively. The present education system is already declining, as government-run institutions are not showing good results.
In marked contrast, the education system run by reputable institutions such as the armed forces are producing knowledgeable and disciplined students, as they give priority to look after the teachers responsible for good results. If we really care about our younger generation and specially education for women, it needs to be given the importance it deserves. The concerned authorities should take up the matter on priority as it is a national issue concerned with the respect and dignity of the nation.
All the teachers who are qualified, experienced and have served a tenure with good reputation should be respected through confirmation of their jobs. Their permanent status would give them more confidence to work with enthusiasm and bring a positive change for which we are struggling so hard.
