A full court reference to honour Supreme Court Judge, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, will be held on the eve of his retirement on December 9 (tomorrow). Being an intelligent Judge, he sometimes interpreted questions of 'laws and facts' in poetry, while hearing the cases of different parties, with the sole objective to make the propositions understandable.
It is relevant to mention, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali along with other judges had refused to take oath under Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) on November 3, 2007 and the Oath of Office (Judges) Order 2007 during former dictator's regime. Being a Judge of the SC he exercised original, constitutional, special and appellate jurisdictions, dealt with and decided cases mainly in the jurisdiction of commercial, corporate, banking, arbitration, revenue and civil law.
After his LLB degree in 1968 from University of the Punjab he got enrolment as an advocate the very next year and became advocate of High Courts of West Pakistan in September 1971 whereas an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in May 1978.
He was appointed as a Judge of the SC on April 14,2009 and as Judge of the Lahore High Court Lahore on May 2,2011-prior to taking up office as a judge of the Lahore High Court Lahore he practised as an advocate and legal consultant for over thirty years in the filed of Constitutional, Civil, Commercial, Corporate, Banking, Arbitration, Labour and Land Laws.
During the period he also drafted and structured commercial contracts pertaining to domain of finance, banking, energy, fertilisers, technology transfer, management, services, construction and engineering including numerous educational and charitable trusts and foundations.
Being a visiting faculty member he delivered lectures from 1981 to 2001 at the Directorate of Income Tax (1995-99), City Law College Lahore (1992 - 96), Punjab Law College Lahore (1987-88), District Management Group Campus (DMG) at the Civil Services Academy of Pakistan (1981-83/84), Institute of Bankers (1996- 2000) and Allied Bank of Pakistan Academy (1995-96), respectively for various subjects.
