Chief Secretary Sindh, Raja Muhammad Abbas has said that government has released an amount of Rs 7.000 million for restarting disbursement of an amount of Rs 40,000 among each flood/rain affectee of the province through Pakistan/Watan Cards as the government is striving to rehabilitate them.
This he said while speaking to media in Mianji Gul Mallah, a remote village of union council Chuhar Jamali of district Thatta, here Thursday. The chief secretary was there to hand-over keys of 20 newly constructed homes built by the marines of Pakistan Navy for the flood & rain affectees of the coastal area. He was told that Pak Navy Marines have developed 252 cemented homes at various locations of the coastal area.
The chief secretary lauded the efforts of PN and said that along-with protecting coastal borders of Pakistan, our navy has always served people in difficult times. He said that by building 252 cemented homes for the flood-affected people of coastal area, PN has set great example of servicing community for others.
Later, while replying a question of media regarding any dispute between NDMA and government of Sindh on the figure of flood affectees, he rejected such impression and said that the figure of flood & rain affectees have been validated through third party as per international standard. He appreciated the efforts of NDMA in helping the provincial government to provide rescue, relief and rehabilitation to the affectees of last year's devastating floods and unprecedented rains, adding that NDMA has spent huge amount of Rs 7000 million on the affectees and shared financial pressure with Sindh government. He said that the disbursement of Rs 40,000/ to flood affectees through Pakistan/Watan Cards, has been started.
Abbas said that assessment of losses of last years' flood has been completed and the restoration & rehabilitation of infrastructure of education, road sectors etc has been initiated with the funding of Asian Development Bank and World Bank. He furthered that damage assessment of current year's unprecedented rains, which played havoc in many districts, is in final stage and thereafter work on restoration of infrastructure will be started.
Answering another question, the chief secretary dispelled the impression that after dissolution of the District government system, the pace of development is at halt. He said that the funding was previously being made to Account IV which has been ceased and replaced with Account I as per new local government system which has fully been restored and activated. He added that funds have been released to deputy commissioners and district councils as per the existing law, therefore the impression of stoppage of development process is wrong. On the complaints of lack of medical facilities at Civil Hospital Thatta and construction of inferior quality Thatta Bypass, he asked deputy commissioner Thatta to probe the complaints and report him.
Earlier, Commander Pak Navy Marines Captain, Shahid told the ceremony that Pak Navy, besides protecting coastal borders, have always been striving to extend all possible help to the residents of coastal belt of Sindh. He said that Pak Marines have built 252 homes under the initiative to provide cemented shelters to flood-affected people of the area, out of which keys to 20 homes constructed in village Mianji Gul Mallah were handed over today.
He further said that Pak Navy rescued lives of 1,800 people in last rains while medical assistance to 60,000 people was provided along-with supply 1,600 tons of food material to them. He disclosed that navy is working to extend different trade expertise to people of the coastal area to enhance their life standards, for which workshops are been conducted regularly. Commander Coast Real Admiral, Zafar Mehmud Abbasi arranged this ceremony which was being attended by Commissioner Hyderabad, Ahmed Bux Narejo, Deputy Commissioner Thatta, Muhammad Jaffer Abbasi and other government officials.
