Members of Sikh community hailing from Khyber Agency on Tuesday announced that they are quitting Awami National Party and joining Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The announcement made by Sahib Singh, leader of Sikh community during a press conference at Peshawar Press Club.
PTI provincial activists, Iftikhar Khan Jhagra, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, Mian Mukarram Shah, Iqbal Afridi and President District Peshawar Syed Ishtiaq Ali Shah were also present. A large number of Sikhs community members were present on the occasion.
Sahib Singh, who was elected twice member of district assembly, said that he along with members of the community is going to join PTI after quitting ANP because of failure of government to resolve their issues. He pointed out that the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa legislative assembly failed to pass specific bill for minorities in the province. He expressed the hope that PTI would struggle for minority rights in the country, particularly KP.
Sahib said PTI is sole party to pull country out of prevailing crisis, adding that Sikhs would play their role in strengthening the party in the province. He said PTI will prove as party of poor people, adding that PPP-led coalition government had failed to deliver and address key issues such as unemployment, inflation, energy and gas crisis. He said corruption was at peak level in the country in general and KP in particular.
Iftikhar Jhagra, PTI activist said the party would play vital role for resolution of problems confronting the Sikh community in the province. He added that the Sikh community has great contribution in the development and progress of the country. He assured the members of the Sikh community that PTI if voted to power, would ensure maximum participation of minorities in the Provincial Assembly.
