While rejecting the rumours pertaining to any undemocratic change, Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali Khan said, "I don't see it would happen, as the country cannot afford any undemocratic system any more. Talking to media at the party's Central Executive Committee meeting held here on Wednesday, ANP President said that democratic system cannot be derailed just by rumours.
Asfandyar said that Pakistan and Afghanistan must make sure that their soil was not used against each other, adding that ANP was the first party that raised voice against Nato's attacks on Pakistan security check posts in Mohmand Agency on November 26, 2011 and opined that such move must be resisted in future. He, however, appreciated the steps taken by the government soon after the incidents in which 24 Pakistan security personnel were martyred.
To question regarding invitation of Abbottabad Commission, he said that he personally appeared before the commission, adding that had the territorial sovereignty of the country been protected, the May 2 incident in Abbottabad may have not taken place. He questioned over the alleged silence over violation of the country's sovereignty.
The ANP President said that no one spoke when Arab and Tajiks were entering the country, and today people are talking that we are fighting war of others and pointed out that this war started during 1980s and its aftershocks are feeling the nation now.
Asfandyar Wali said the political doctors' point out the disease by holding press conferences, but they failed in suggesting remedy for its treatment. He pointed out that price hike, unemployment, load shedding are problems being faced by the masses, but most of them were inherited by the present government, so there is no short term solution of these problems. He said the ANP has formed a Manifesto Committee under Haji Adeel to draft a new manifesto keeping in view the ground realities. Replying to a query, he said no one can stop people if they are willing to join Imran Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaf.
