Chairman of Jeevay Pakistan Jeevay Muqami Hakoomat (JPJM), Daniyal Aziz has said that Balochistan High Court gave a landmark judgement on separation of powers among the state organs. He said this verdict would be of great significant to bring democracy to grass-root level and seeking separation of judiciary from the executive.
He was addressing the member of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) here Thursday. He also demanded implementation of the judgement, as it was the command of the Constitution. He said that president of provincial chapter of JPJM Maqbool Ahmed Lehri had raised this issue before BHC as part of its struggle for revival of local government system.
He said his efforts bore fruit in the 18th constitutional amendment, which pushed provinces to decentralise down to the local government level and assigned the election commission of Pakistan to hold its elections. He said, neither the provincial governments nor the election commission done anything to implement it. He termed it as criminal negligence of the provincial governments for not conducting local bodies polls. He said local bodies system should be implemented in letter and spirit to strengthen democratic system in the country. He said the local bodies system is to provide justice and basic rights to the people at their doorstep and get them free from bureaucratic hindrances in redressing their grievances.
He urged the legal fraternity to come forward in this noble task with the zeal like they did during struggle for revival of judiciary. LHCBA president, Asghar Ali Gill in his concluding speech appreciated Daniyal Aziz for his efforts to reinforce local bodies system.
