The treasury and opposition members in the National Assembly on Friday called for unity to thwart conspiracies against the Parliament and democracy. The lawmakers from both sides of political aisle said that they should show unity to avert any plot against the democratic system in the country.
They vowed to foil any conspiracy against democracy and demonstrate unity for ensuring supremacy of the Parliament. Ayaz Amir of PML-N said that they all needed to put their heads together and ponder over as to who was manoeuvrings against the democratic system.
"We should learn lesson from the past, our history has been filled with short term games. The history of 1977 and 1999 is being repeated as same old tactics against democracy are being repeated nowadays. We should not repeat our follies and trace out the forces who want to fulfil their nefarious designs through a peace of paper (Memo),' he said.
Fauzia Wahab of PPP said that the legislators from both treasury and opposition benches must join hands to protect the dignity and honour of the Parliament so that the conspirators against democracy could be foiled. She said that the Parliament was a sovereign body which represents over 180 millions Pakistanis. Barjees Tahir of PML-N while speaking on a point of order said that dictators had always ruined the country and the people's representatives must pledge today (December 16, anniversary of disintegration of Pakistan) that they would not surrender to the enemies. It happened during the tenure of a civilian rule that over 90,000 soldiers were got released and 5000 square miles of the land was taken back, he said.
