Millat Group is Pakistan's leading engineering concern in automobile sector and has a history that spans almost half a century. The MILLAT TRACTORS was established in 1964 in the name of Rana Tractors and Equipment to introduce Massey Ferguson tractors in Pakistan by importing Complete Built Up (CBU) tractors from UK. An assembly plant was set up in Karachi in 1964 to assemble tractors imported in semi-knocked down (SKD) condition which in 1967 was shifted to Lahore.
Millat Group has played a pivotal role in transfer of technology and transformation of a fledging local light engineering sector into a robust, vibrant, quality conscious Auto Vending Industry.
Today, with the Grace of God Almighty, all targets for local indigenization as fixed by the Engineering Development Board have not only been achieved rather exceeded with the co-operation of vendor base presently comprising of more than 250 Industrial units, both small and large organisations, supplying tractor components. These vendors have not only been helpful to the local tractor industry but are vital for the entire automobile sector and even to the Defence Industry of Pakistan.
The performance of the Company during the financial year 2010-11 has been recognised countrywide and internationally as well. The Karachi stock exchange has listed Company's name in the top 10 companies of country. Whereas Internationally, Forbes Global Magazine has included the name of Millat Tractors Limited in Asia's Best 200 Under a Billion $ Companies. Plimsoll, UK, world portfolio analysis 2011, ranked MTL in top 30 tractor Companies of the world.
MTL Products:
Tractors & Farm Machinery:

Keeping in view the local farming needs, the company offers six tractors models from 50 hp to 85 hp. These models are world-wide competitive in price and quality. Besides these, 100 hp and above tractor models are being imported to cater the need of large farms. More so, the Company has to its credit introduction of wide range of implements suitable to its tractor models and local cropping pattern.
Recently, the Company has introduced tractor driven Fodder Harvesting Machine in collaboration with JF Brazil. The machine has been well appreciated by the dairy/livestock farmers as it has provided a great support in silage making of the fodder. The silage technology not only provides high nutrition value feed to animals but also supports in reducing the feeding cost.
Industrial Products
To diversify its expertise of engine manufacturing, MTL got into diesel gen set, forklift truck and prime mover manufacturing in 1995 and since then there is no turning back. Products include:
a) Diesel Generating Sets
Initially started manufacturing Diesel generating sets from 15 kVA to 25 kVA range with our own manufactured 3.1524 engines and Leroy Somer Alternators from France of hall mark repute. This was upgraded in 1997 with 40 kVA Gensets with our own 4 cylinder 4.248/4.41 engines manufactured by us through transfer of technology from Perkins(UK).
b) Fork Lift Trucks
We are also manufacturing 3 Ton fork lift Trucks in collaboration with Anhui Fork Lift Truck Group China and fitted with our own 3.1524 engines, plus a wide range of other local content.

Millat Group of Companies:
In the recent years, Millat has made a huge investment in allied industries to ensure adequate supplies of quality components. Beside MTL, the following companies are also part of Millat Group:
Millat Equipment Limited (MEL): It started its operations in 2004. MEL specialises in the manufacture of power train parts thus making the country self reliant in these components.
Its modern facilities are equipped for manufacturing of broad range of:
-- Transmission Shafts
-- Spur Gears
-- Helical Gears
-- Spiral & Straight Bevel Gears
-- Sub assemblies, like Hydraulic Pump for Massey Ferguson brand of tractors.
Millat Industrial Products Ltd. (MIPL): It was established in the year 2002 producing quality automotive batteries with Austrian technology, including:
-- Polypropylene Lead Acid Batteries
-- UPS batteries
-- CNG batteries
Bolan Castings Limited (BCL): It has a capacity to produce 20,000 tons castings for tractors and automotives in grey and ductile iron like:
-- Engine Blocks
-- Cylinders Heads
-- Gearboxes
-- Axle Housing
-- Hubs and Brake drums etc.
So far, more than 180 different type of castings have been successfully developed and supplied to various customers, both local & abroad.
These activities of the Millat Group have led to the creation of hundreds of new jobs and a turnover as stated hereunder.
The employees of Millat Group continue to work with full zeal and motivation to further improve performance standards. We are confident that the company will keep marching forward in service of the nation and the valued customers. Despite the above said remarkable achievements by the Millat Group, the Group and its associated industry future is at stake after imposition of the General Sales Tax applicable @16% on end selling tractor and farm machinery prices. The levied GST has affected the buying power of the farmers adversely effecting the sale. The demand of tractors has declined to less than half as compared to last two years.
In order to continue the current pace of progress of the tractor/vending industry and farm mechanisation enhancement in the Country, it is imperative that the tractor and farm machinery prices be brought back in the farmers buying power by eliminating the General Sales Tax. It is very important in view of very low level of Farm Mechanisation which effects form productivity. The Horse Power to Acre ratio needs to be improved which today stands at 0.9 HP per hector vs 2.5 in India and even more in developed countries.
