The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) will provide two more hostels for girls next year keeping in view increasing enrolment of women and give them state-of-the-art facilities at the campus. This was stated by UAF Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while addressing a large gathering of women students at a function held to mark ten years of excellence of the Agrarian Society at Iqbal Auditorium.
He stressed the need to step up role of women in the development of the country with active participation. He said that the University was also setting up a Women Club at the campus in a bid to increase women's role and participation. He said that the club would provide a platform to the women to share their ideas that will pave way to the progress of the country. He said that the University is enjoying the free-of-gender-discrimination environment at the campus. He said that the varsity has set up a Women Complex consisting of three hostels with joint boundary wall.
He said that at the complex, jogging track and other facilities have been given to them. He said that currently the campus has five hostels for women. He said that the University has established a Day Care Centre in order to provide facilities to working women there and their children to be e be given care.
Talking about women contribution to education, he said that a decade ago, only 35 percent of literate people were women while 55 percent were men. But now, a positive trend is witnessed in the ratio of women education as 45 percent of them are women. He said: "At the campus, there were only 40 female teachers a few years ago now they are 120 in number. Beside it, as many as one-third our students are women. Without their participation, we cannot fulfil the dream of progress." Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Dr Muhammad Ashfaq and Professor Dr Shahbaz Talib Sahi also spoke. At the function, famous singer Baby Fareeha presented the songs before the audience.
