Oath of LHC CJ by Governor Khosa: verdict on maintainability of petition reserved
Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday reserved verdict on maintainability of a petition challenging oath of new LHC Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed administered by Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa.
The judge heard the application of the petitioner against the objections raised by LHC registrar's office, saying that the petitioner had no locus standi to file the petition for not being an aggrieved person. The petitioner, a lawyer, submitted that a petition against appointment of Khosa as Punjab governor was pending before the court. Moreover, he also questioned the presence of Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif in oath taking ceremony saying his acquittal in Sabzazar police encounter case was also challenged and pending adjudication in the court.
He further pointed out that portraits of President Asif Ali Zardari and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto were also displayed in the ceremony. He said a case pertained to holding of political office by the President Zardari was also pending in the high court, while Z.A Bhutto (late) was convicted by the court. The lawyer, therefore, pleaded that Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed should have not taken oath by the incumbent governor.
