Interior Minister Rehman Malik has sought suggestions regarding 'Counter and Control of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) Bill 2012' from all provincial and federal stakeholders. A meeting was held in the Ministry of Interior with the Minister in the chair on Friday to review progress on implementation of the executive policy for curbing the IEDs by all stakeholders.
The Minister asked all officials of federal and provincial governments, including representatives of all law enforcing agencies, to offer suggestions for the proposed legislation to be enacted shortly through a bill--(IEDs) BILL, 2012. The Bill will be drafted by the Ministry of Interior and circulated to all provinces/concerned departments for inputs. He directed the DG, Civil Defence to take the draft bill to governments of Punjab and Sindh for discussion with Chief Secretaries, Home Secretaries and IGPs.
Similarly, he directed Joint Secretary (Law), MoI, to take similar action in case of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan and Gilgit-Biltistan. Both officers have been directed to submit their joint report to him with the revised draft bill, after which the same would be promulgated on the advice of Law and Justice Division.
The Minister directed Secretary Interior to form a committee under the chairmanship of Director General, National Police Bureau, for revision and modification of 'Blue Book', according to the new challenges and new security trends, so that the outdated Blue Book could be reformed according to the need of the hour. He directed that while revising Blue Book, input of all provinces/stakeholders should be ascertained by the chairman of the committee by associating Home Secretaries and IGPs of all provinces, ICT, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
