An adjournment motion moved by the ruling PPP lawmaker against the a low-cadre official of Sindh Revenue Department showed how bureaucracy is powerful than the elected representatives. Imran Zafar Laghari while submitting the motion said that a 'corrupt' assistant Mukhtarkar of Revenue Department defied the orders of an elected representative for solving the public problems.
He said the very official had scuffled with people and got them arrested in Khairpur Nathanshah, on January 6, 2012. On which, PML-F's woman lawmaker Nusrat Sehar Abbasi urged him to spell out the name of the official. He said he should be allowed to present his motion, which he called a 'matter of public importance.' He said that he was also threatened to be arrested, when he reached the spot on the call of the protestors.
Meanwhile, PPP's Taimor Talpur, Nadir Magsi, Dr Ahmad Ali Shah and NPP's Arif Jatoi supported Imran Zafar while Abbasi said who had appointed the corrupt officials, should be made responsible. Speaker Nisar Khohro, who was chairing the session, said the time for hearing the motion was half hour, which lapsed and now it would be reheard during next session on Friday, January 20.
Replying to a question asked during the previous session on frequent earthquakes in the metropolis, Sindh Information Minister Shazia Mari while quoting meteorologist said that such minor scale tremors were good for the city's environment. She said the low scale seismic activities of the earth plates emitted energy, helped the city secure from big jolts. She said it should not be a worrisome matter for the public who just needed awareness about the quake occurrences.
She informed the house that the met office had undertaken a study to gauge the level of possible destruction due to big quakes in the city. Shazia Mari said Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) had also made codes for new structures in the province, keeping in view the effects of earthquakes in the future. Taimur Talpur again raised the issue of unavailability of excavators for draining out flood water accumulated in flood-hit areas of Omerkot District. On which, the speaker asked Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ayaz Soomro to solve the issue as the concerned minister was not present in the house.
