A six member delegation of scientists from the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), headed by its President, Dr Krishan Lal is visiting Pakistan from January 17-19, on the invitation of President Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS).
The delegation held a meeting with scientists of Pakistan Academy of Sciences in Islamabad. President, PAS, briefed the Indian scientists about the current status of Science and Technology and Higher Education in Pakistan.
Scientists of the two academies discussed ways to develop scientific and technological collaboration between the two countries and benefit from each other's research findings and experience, said a press release. They agreed to identify specialised institutions so that scientists in both the countries could develop collaboration in different scientific fields including collaborative research projects; holding of joint workshops, seminars and conferences; exchange of scientists and university professors and exchange of students for higher education.
Professor Atta-ur-Rahman, during the first session of the meeting said, "India and Pakistan can benefit from each other's experience in the domain of science and technology which can lead to greater co-operation in technical fields." This collaboration shall cost fewer resources as both the countries are contiguous and are aware of each other's culture and languages. He said this was the historic visit of such high-level scientists from India to Pakistan.
