"How do you bring an entire city to a halt?"
"Get Rehman Malik to monitor the city traffic."
"Correct."
"What do you mean?"
"You are correct - Rehman Malik, left to his own peculiar mindset (to draw from the President's favoured terminology), can bring an entire city to a halt. And you wondered why the President likes him so much."
"Don't be facetious. I really want to know what he did."
"Well, he stopped all traffic from going to the Constitution Avenue and thereby created the most God awful traffic mess ever."
"I told you the guy is good at achieving his objective. You know and I know that he brought Islamabad to a standstill in the interest of providing security to the Prime Minister."
"But the Prime Minister came down from his house and went to the Supreme Court building - all this is on the Constitution Avenue... and let's be honest, the distance is probably no more than a kilometre at best and need I add it's a distance the PM does travel each day presuming that he visits his Secretariat once a day at least which is located next to the Supreme Court."
"Hey, the PM drove down himself..."
"Right, and he got out in front of the Supreme Court and someone drove his car away..."
"So? The important thing is Malik was standing there to welcome the PM. And other ministers came shortly afterwards - including Rabbani Khar but Dasti wasn't there."
"Man this is ridiculous!"
"Agreed, but attendance was compulsory for jiyalas, kinda more reminiscent of Babar Awan's strategy rather than Aitzaz Ahsan's. And then the Prime Minister spoke at length in his own defence - which surprised me as I thought Aitzaz Ahsan would have insisted that he speak only through his counsel."
"You get a politician and a lawyer on one side and to think either one will win the argument that only he speak is not likely."
"Yes, there is that."
