The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has announced to cut off power connections of all government departments which have failed to pay their electricity bills worth over Rs 614 million. A list of defaulters issued by Mepco discloses that WASA is the biggest defaulter with an outstanding amount of Rs 358 million followed by Municipal Administration Rs 73.9 million and colleges Rs 31.7 million.
The other big defaulters include security institutions with overdue amount of Rs 19.6 million, the Jails Department Rs 16.9 million, the Education Department Rs 14.7 million, Multan Development Authority Rs 14 million, Pakistan Railway Rs 13.3 million, Boys Schools Rs 10 million, the Irrigation Department Rs 5.4 million and Police Rs 4.2 million.
Similarly, the Central Excise Department has to pay Rs 0.3 million, Immigration and Passport Rs 2 million, Accountant General Rs 81,000, Food and Livestock Rs 64,000, Income Tax Rs 71,000, Postal Services Rs 35,000, Central Testing Lab Rs 28,000, Sui Gas Rs 500,000, Oil and Gas Rs 600,000, IRSA Rs 72,000, Ghee Corporation Rs 700,000, National Bank Rs 200,000, National Highway Rs 1.5 million, PTCL Rs 2 million, Cantt Board Rs 500,000, High Court Rs 200,000, District and Sessions Court Rs 1 million, chairman Planning Commission Rs 200,000, Senior Civil Judge court Rs 200,000, Punjab Public Health Rs 50,000, Food Department Rs 400,000 and Forest and Wildlife Rs 1 million.
